Car Battery Size Chart Guide (2025): Find the Right Group Size & CCA for Your Vehicle
When it comes to your vehicle’s performance and reliability, choosing the correct battery size is more important than most drivers realize. The AGM car battery isn’t just a source of power to start your engine — it supports your car’s electronic systems. Installing the wrong battery size can lead to:
- Incompatible terminal positions and poor connections
- Insufficient starting power in cold or demanding conditions
- Shortened battery lifespan or premature failure
- Potential damage to your vehicle’s electrical system
That’s why it’s critical to understand how car battery sizing works before replacing your battery. So in this blog, I will show Car Battery Size Chart Guide (2025) and Guide you How to Read a Battery Size Chart.

Car Battery Size vs. CCA & Reserve Capacity: How to Read a Battery Size Chart
When choosing a car battery, it's not just about physical size. A battery size chart typically includes three critical categories that work together to ensure proper fitment and reliable performance:
1. Battery Group Numbers
his number represents the physical dimensions, terminal orientation, and tray compatibility of a battery. Defined by the Battery Council International (BCI), group sizes are typically two digits (like Group 34) or a combination of numbers and a letter (like H6 or 48). Some vehicles may accept more than one group size, as long as the dimensions and terminal positions are compatible.
2. Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)
CCA measures a battery’s ability to deliver a high burst of starting power in cold temperatures. Specifically, it's the number of amps a battery can supply at 0°F (-18°C) for 30 seconds while maintaining a minimum voltage of 7.2 volts for a 12V battery.
A higher CCA rating ensures more reliable starts in cold weather. Within the same group size, batteries typically have a minimum recommended CCA, though premium versions often offer higher CCA for extra starting security.
3. Reserve Capacity (RC)
RC stands for Reserve Capacity — the number of minutes a fully charged battery can continuously deliver 25 amps of current before its voltage drops below 10.5 volts.
This is a key measure of how long your vehicle can operate critical systems — like headlights, defrosters, and audio — if the alternator or charging system fails. RC is also what powers your car's accessories when the engine’s off.
As a car owner, one thing you need to know is that a larger battery group size does not automatically mean higher CCA or RC. While larger batteries generally have more physical space for plates and electrolyte, performance specs like CCA and RC depend on battery design, plate construction, and technology type (AGM vs. flooded).
Always check both CCA and RC ratings within your compatible group size to select the best-performing option for your climate and driving needs.
Hopefully, every person automobile owner can find a battery that matches their model, and if you have questions about finding a battery, you can also check out the related tips or contact via supoort@uplusbattery.com.
