Q1: What's the lead-acid battery?

A lead-acid battery is a type of battery that uses lead as the negative electrode material and lead dioxide as the positive electrode material. It is a very common type of battery.
Due to its high safety, non-toxicity, and long cycle life, lead-acid batteries play an important role in automotive start-stop systems, motorcycles, lawn mowers, and toys. Additionally, lead-acid batteries do not contain nickel or cobalt, making them more environmentally and human-friendly.

Car Battery

Q1: Why do car batteries go flat over time?

Most batteries naturally lose their charge over time, particularly when they're not in use. For instance, if you have an old mobile phone tucked away in a drawer at home, it will likely be flat the next time you try to turn it on. The same applies to the battery in your vehicle.

Q2: What does the CCA rating mean for batteries?

Batteries are typically rated using CCA (Cold Cranking Amps), which measures how much current a fully charged battery can deliver for 30 seconds at a temperature of -18°C. Generally, the electrical system in your vehicle is designed to draw a fixed amount of current for each task it performs, so batteries with a higher CCA won't start your vehicle faster or improve its performance.

The CCA rating of a battery will gradually decrease over time, so batteries with higher CCA ratings may last longer.

However, other factors such as the quality of construction, the strength and
thickness of the internal lead plates, and the amount of electrolyte also play
a significant role in determining the battery's lifespan.
